After an endless wait, Nokia has finally unveiled a new N-series phone that is finally ready to compete with the iPhone with its touchscreen and a full QWERTY keyboard.

Nokia N97 is successor to the N96 is the first ever touch-enabled N-series device that runs on the Symbian S60 5th edition. According to Nokia’s official press release, the Nokia N97 is the world’s most advance mobile computer specially designed to meet the needs of Internet-savvy consumers.

Nokia N97 Tech Specifications

The Nokia N97 competes with the iPhone neck to neck in features and functionality. Here is a look at some of its specifications.

Its like picking out every single flaw found in the iPhone and making a device that includes a fix for everything.

The focus in Nokia N97 is the new desktop widgets feature which allows user to syndicate data in real-time through various social networks. Widgets made by third-party developers shall be readily available for download via the Downloads app in Symbian OS.

The N97 also features the quick contacts feature which we already witnessed in the XpressMusic 5800, also known as the Nokia Tube. The QWERTY keybaord accessible through the 30° flip mechanism gives it a little Xperia look but after all what Nokia N97 has to offer, a bit of plagiarism shall definitely be allowed.

Take a look at the official promo for Nokia N97.

It shall be available in the European and Asian markets in Q2 of 2009 with a price tag of $700.

While many of you may be waiting for some other handset to launch on T-Mobile, BlackBerry addicts may very well be counting down the hours ’til this one lands on the aforesaid carrier. If we just rang your bell, chances are you’ll be extremely interested in this here preview, which delivers a whole gaggle of photographs, a decidedly ho hum video (hosted after the break) of the Pearl Flip 8220 in action and a lengthy writeup explaining the ins and outs of RIM’s first flip phone. As for highlights, this thing turns into a real monster (read: it’s big) when opened, but when closed, it’s a real looker. For more on the aesthetics (not to mention some shots beside a few other BlackBerry siblings — Bold included), head on down to the read link and dig in.

As the root of our name implies, desktop browsers aren’t really our thing in Engadget-land. Still, we’re pretty sure that you’ve managed to learn about Google’s new Chrome browser even without our assistance. However, when we hear Google’s co-founder, Sergey Brin discussing Chrome on Android, well, we’re all in. Even though neither has been released out of beta yet, Brin said that the Webkit-based Chrome browser is expected to soon supplant the Webkit-based browser in Android. “Probably a subsequent version of Android is going to pick up a lot of the Chrome stack,” Brin said before adding, “My guess is we’ll have ‘Chrome-like’ or something similar,” when asked about the brand name. While we have lingering doubts about the likely stability of the initial 1.0 Android OS release, version 2.0 with Chrome is likely to be killer in every sense of the word to <s>Symbian</s> Nokia, Microsoft, and Apple. Of course, we’ll be first in line for the HTC Dream regardless.

Press shots are often beautiful, but the problem with ‘em is that they’re usually about as real as Joan Rivers’ face — not the best way to get a real impression of what a device looks and acts like in the flesh. GSM Helpdesk scored some hands-on time today with the full range of Sony Ericsson’s new wares, and the headliner of the bunch, the mighty 8.1 megapixel C905, is looking ready for battle. Not literal battle, of course, but battle in the marketplace with a whole host of feature phones being released this year from its top rivals — particularly important at a time when market share is falling. The 2.4-inch display is apparently “clear” and plenty impressive for managing your extensive photo library, and we’re digging the curvy styling; UIQ would’ve been nice, but we suppose the dumbphone set deserves killer cameras too. Also pictured are the low-end J132 and K330, the S302 (which with a 2 megapixel camera, may not be worthy of the name “Snapshot”), and the F305 gaming phone. We’d had high hopes for the F305 — as we do for pretty much anything that can be shaken to control games — but the live shots here are leaving us a little underwhelmed. Maybe the white version will do it justice?

We just got our hands on Nokia’s sexy new N78, which it’s bringing to us previously Nokia-starved North Americans in full-fledged, unlocked 3.5G. The phone boasts Nokia’s new maps 2.0 app, along with photo geotagging, and of course all those N-series trimmings like WiFi and dual cameras. There’s no N-Gage support yet, but a firmware update is forthcoming. Unfortunately for us, we had trouble getting geotagging or even online photo uploads in general to work at all — we didn’t stoop so low as to look at the manual, but Nokia certainly has some interface kinks to work out here. Maps 2.0 is all it’s cracked up to be, and the phone tracked our walk down the block with accuracy bordering on creepiness. The keypad is a bit of a departure for Nokia, with ridges instead of full keys, but it didn’t take us long to get comfortable with. We’re less impressed with the touch sensitive “Navi wheel” on the d-pad, given Nokia’s sporadic software support and its generally janky nature. The overall build of the device is classic Nokia, light but not too light, certainly not too thin but quite comfortable to use and pocket. We had no problem reading the screen in direct sunlight, and it’s bright indoors as well. Though we can’t recommend this unit without reservation, it’s certainly one of the hottest phones for its form factor going, and once Nokia spruces up the new software a bit — S60 3.2’s new transitions are nice but aren’t quite enough to make up for the shortcomings — our gripes will be pretty much non-existant.

Yeah, we’ve seen a few FMC routers scattered about, but Vodafone’s taking a stand by rolling out its Station in Italy. The box, which was developed in cooperation with Huawei, is an integrated switch / router with ADSL2+, WiFi, UMTS / HSPA (via a removable USB key) and four Ethernet ports. Essentially, it’s designed to combine voice with fixed and mobile broadband services, and it enables users to make calls on their handset through a fixed line connection when they’re kicking back at home. We’re also hearing that the device will eventually make its way to other Vodafone markets, but there’s been no word yet on future rollout dates.

Seasoned tech pundit Gary Krakow has a real puzzler here. He’s claiming that while the Android OS should be ready for launch through a couple manufacturers by the end of the year, an unnamed source has told him that the actual “Gphone” from Google has been delayed into next year. That’s great and all, but we thought the whole Gphone buzz was pretty much killed dead when Android got real. Sure, there was that one-off Samsung rumor about a couple Google-branded handsets supposedly due for September, but there was never much followup there. Google itself has never done much hinting at a Google-branded handset, instead choosing to work with Open Handset Alliance in building an OS for everybody. We’ll be keeping an eye on this rumor, but obviously if it proves true we won’t be seeing anything out of Google until next year — which basically puts us right where we started.

Hop-On, a company which develops and markets wireless phones, has recently released a cell-phone they call as the “Anti-iPhone”. The phone makers challenge the Apple wonder phone not in terms of features and design but in terms of usability and affordability.

Hop1800 is perhaps the world’s cheapest phone ever that comes with a price tag of $10 only (Thats right!) and the amazing part is that it is now already available in the United States and worldwide.

The phone is one of the simplest phones that you will ever see. There is no display, no video or any multimedia features. Its just a phone which you can use to talk to your friends and family.

The phone has a battery life of 4 hours talk time and 150 hours standby time. It can be best used as a backup cellphone for people who are addicted to losing their cellphones often.

Furthermore, if you think that $10 is still a little expensive, the company offers a $5 rebate if you return the cell phone for recycling purposes.

PS: lol I wonder what will happen if such a low-price phone makes its way to Pakistan mobile market.

Get this: the first North American carrier to offer up Nokia’s 8GB N95 isn’t AT&T. Heck, it’s not even a US-based operator. No friends, it’s Canada’s own Rogers Wireless. Just as we had heard late last month, the N95 8GB has officially landed in the Great North, and starting on May 6th, consumers up that way will be able to secure one for a hefty $399.99 with a three-year activation on the Rogers Vision Unlimited On-Device Mobile Browsing Plan. Don’t weep too heavily, AT&T users — your time should be coming soon.

This unlocked Blackberry 9000 was spotted on eBay just before the auction mysteriously ended. The seller says the phone is unlocked and will “Not be released until August 2007″ — we’ll guess he / she is a little unclear as to what year it is. However, said seller promises that this particular unlocked phone is actually in stock now and ready to ship for the lucky winner. Listed features (according to this auction) include: 3G, Edge, WiFi, and Bluetooth, as we’ve seen elsewhere. There’s no telling how legit this is, and the seller clearly pulled the auction for some unknown reason, but there do seem to be at least a few of these floating around. Peep the pictures in the gallery below for some photographic evidence.
