YouPlayer for Firefox Lets You Play Videos in Sidebar

August 21st, 2008 Abermaplalm Posted in Firefox | No Comments » 653 views

YouPlayer for Firefox (discovered by Kay) has to be one of best Firefox extensions ever and I am still surprised how I never discovered it until now.

It basically allows you to play videos from your favorite video sites such as YouTube, DailyMotion, MetaCafe, MySpace right from within your Firefox sidebar.

Users can make a playlist of videos and watch them while surfing the web. The reason I love this extension is because it kills the limitation of staying on a browser window to watch a video and allows you to enjoy it virtually anywhere you go.

Once you install this extension (link provided at the end of this post), simply click the red YP button on the bottom right section of Firefox to bring up the YouPlayer sidebar. To start watching videos, all you have to do is drag the video link from your browser to the playlist section and double click it.

And if you still think YouPlayer is not cool enough, let me tell you that YouPlayer also allows you to even drag local files from hard drive into playlist and if you want you can download videos from YouTube by right clicking their link in the playlist and selecting Download.

Copy and Paste for iPhone

August 21st, 2008 Abermaplalm Posted in Iphone | No Comments » 1,322 views

We iphone users know exactly how difficult it is for us to survive without having copy and paste functionality. Apple does have this under consideration but according to them its not a priority.

Perhaps with the new open-source community project called OpenClip, it will be possible for users to use copy and paste functionality among some iPhone apps without begging Apple to add this feature to the firmware.

This is how it works, when a developer adds the OpenClip framework to an iPhone app, that app gains copy and paste functionality. So basically it all comes down to how willing and supportive the iPhone app developers are. GeekBrief has also made a video demo of the copy/paste functionality being used within some native iPhone apps.

The OpenClip framework does not violate the iPhone SDK Agreement in any way so developers don’t need to worry about getting busted by Apple. The best of all is that the OpenClip framework is non-profit and open source. Here you can see a list of all upcoming apps for iPhone that support copy and paste functionality.

This Firefox addon is recommended for users who download files very often and using this addon they will be able to view and manage downloads from a tidy statusbar instead of the download window.

The fully customizable interface of this Firefox addon auto-hides when not in use, allowing full control without interruption.

Users can pause/resume a file download with single-click and can open or run a completed file with double-click. uTorrent is not Safe! Well At least for now

August 16th, 2008 Abermaplalm Posted in Internet | No Comments » 1,405 views

According to a report by TorrentFreak, older versions of uTorrent may not be that secure after all.

A recent vulnerability discovered in earlier versions of uTorrent and BitTorrent clients can be exploited to compromise a computer for the execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the processing of .torrent files. This could allow an attacker to remotely execute artibitary code on the victims machine.

uTorrent users should immediately upgrade to the latest version 1.8 to fix this issue. BitTorrent users should remain vigilant as there is no fix available for the moment but soon will be.

August 12th, 2008 Abermaplalm Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments » 650 views

In WordPress 2.5+, a new administration menu was introduced for WordPress which takes a lot of useless space and also splatters a lot of links over the screen. Plus the other downside is having no drop down menu so you have to manually navigate to each page.

Planetozh has coded a very neat and useful WordPress plugin which will not only kill all wasted space in WordPress administration menu but will also add a css drop down menu for fast and easy navigation.
