When faced with large amounts of information, the designer's challenge is to make it clear and easy to understand. Adobe InDesign can help. With its Data Merge command, you can take raw data from spreadsheets or databases and quickly apply formatting with an InDesign template. In this course, author David Blatner takes you through the data merge capabilities of InDesign, two example projects (name tags and a catalog), and some third-party solutions that extend InDesign's data handling power.

Centro Serif Pro is an award-winning typeface. It received a Gold Award from the European Design Awards 2008 and an Excellence Award from the International Type Design Competition 2009 as part of the Centro Pro type system. This large series of 40 fonts with 1519 glyphs each is composed of three superfamilies (serif, sans and slab), includes true italics and supports Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. According to the jury of the European Design Awards “...Centro Pro is an almost ‘invisible’ typeface with distinct personality, it has legibility as its main attribute and is ideal for a wide range of design works. It does not attract any unnecessary attention, but rather serves its purpose. A rare case of contemporary type family working across three alphabets. Centro Pro meets an ever-growing demand for such typefaces among pan-European companies and institutions”. Centro Pro has become very popular among printed media and is ideal choice for newspapers, magazines and corporate applications. Furthermore every font in this series has been completed with 270 copyright-free symbols, some of which have been proposed by several international organizations for packaging, public areas, environment, transportation, computers, fabric care and urban life.

Sumner Stone worked together with Bob Ishi of Adobe to create the Stone family fonts, which appeared in 1987. Coincidentally, ishi is the Japanese word for stone, which precluded any squabbling about whose name the font would carry. The family consists of three types of fonts: a serif, a sans-serif and an informal style. The Stone fonts are very legible and create a modern, dynamic impression.

SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of some hard disk drive failures before they actually happen! It does so by periodically polling the built-in S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disk drives as well as performing other checks for "I/O errors" or R.A.I.D "degradation". The current status of your hard disk drives is always easily recognizable because SMARTReporter changes its icon (optionally in the menubar) from green to red if a problem occurs.

And this one like most of our others has a niche appeal although it is versatile as versatile can be. Now this is a font that can pretty much fit the bill when you want to send out an exclusive appeal but yet not overly formal. It is styled with fonts that cry out ‘eliteness’ and exclusivity, but without the part where it becomes so exclusive and classy that it goes way over people’s heads! The ‘Egregio’ can still connect on a very personal, almost friendly level with your audience while it remains in a class of its very own!
