Dell Mini Inspiron

May 29th, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 294 views

Gizmodo recently got their hands on what they are calling as the Dell Mini Inspiron. This new Dell notebook was revealed by Michael Dell, Founder and CEO of Dell, at All Things Digital and according to him it is something no one has ever seen before.

Although there is no official name for this notebook yet but Michael confirmed that the Dell Mini Inspiron is low-cost notebook meant for third-world countries.

All we know for now is that it has three USB ports, a card reader, VGA out, Ethernet and a classy red-shell body and no information about the OS or price is available yet.

Personally I love Dell laptops and it would be very exciting to have one of those new mini notebooks that Dell has revealed but still no match to Sony Vaio.

Montevina and Puma-based ASUS notebooks leak out

May 29th, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 435 views

With Intel’s Montevina platform (hopefully) on the way and AMD’s claim that “over 100″ laptops will launch with Puma, it’s kind of surprising that we haven’t seen even more pre-release info on machines due to ship with the new chips, but apparently ASUS is getting ready to hit us with some new gear at Computex. Based on the existing M51 and M70 lines, the M51VR will feature a 2.26GHz Penryn P8400 with 3MB of L2 cache on Montevina’s 1.06GHz bus, while the M51VA and M70VM (pictured) will get 2.53GHz T9400s with 6MB of cache. ASUS should also be showing off the Puma-based F5Z and X50Z laptops with 1.9GHz AMD Athlon64 X2 QL-60 chips, 667MHz buses, ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics and 15.4-inch screens at Computex, so it’ll be interesting to see how these bad boys do side-by-side.

ASUS Eee PC 900 display retrofitted into 701

May 4th, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 432 views

We’ve already seen one engineering bloke stuff a touch panel into a Cloudbook, so we figured it was only a matter of time before that luscious 8.9-inch unit from the Eee PC 900 found its way into the pioneering 701. According to jkkmobile, all that was necessary in order to make the mod happen was a good bit of reworking around the bezel and a BIOS hack to enable full-screen support on a larger display. Unfortunately, a step-by-step guide has yet to be posted (though it’s likely forthcoming), but you can gaze upon a smattering of photos right now by giving the read link a visit.

Lenovo IdeaPad U110 overview and video

May 4th, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 426 views

After giving the new IdeaPad U110 its 15 minutes of fame in front of the camera, we got down to business. The 11.1-inch ultraportable is built like a tank — a really, really lightweight tank. The uniquely-designed lid and (overly) glossy motif is a welcome change for Lenovo, but after a good bit of use, it’s easy to see this one won’t appeal to the masses. Click on for the full rundown of impressions and notes (and a video, too).

ASUS gets really official with 17-inch G70 gaming laptop

May 2nd, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 461 views

During the hurricane that was CES, ASUS managed to get in a word just long enough to make mention of a forthcoming G70 laptop. Now that the storm has passed, it’s dishing out a full list of details to get gamers’ mouths watering. The 17-inch behemoth features quite the vivid motif, and crammed within you’ll find your choice of an Intel Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Extreme processor, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, twin 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GTs, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM and room for dual hard drives, too. Furthermore, you can feast your retinas on a WUXGA / WXGA+ panel and tickle your fancy with an optional Blu-ray writer, 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, gigabit Ethernet and 8-cell battery. Sure, this beast weighs nearly 10.6 pounds and packs more LED lighting than an LCD Soundsystem concert, but hey, you’ve got to flaunt it if you’ve got it, right?

MSI’s GX600X TurboBook gets inspected, reviewed

May 2nd, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 493 views

Surely you remember that G600 that MSI showcased at CeBIT, right? We know you’re sitting in stunned silence just thinking back, so we’ll move forward anyway. The crew over at TweakTown managed to get ahold of the GX600X TurboBook, and rather than just frolicking in fields of flowers with it, they put this puppy to the test. Unlike the vast majority of MSI lappies, this particular one manages to stand out somewhat, with a relatively loud design and a fairly potent set of components to boot. Reviewers found it to be a “peak performer” with “excellent overclocking capabilities,” and while the logos may catch a few eyes, these critics felt that those very decals may deter folks from buying an otherwise solid machine. Nevertheless, head on down to the full review — you may find yourself surprisingly attracted to an MSI. Imagine that.

Acer’s 18.4-inch Aspire 8920G laptop gets reviewed

May 2nd, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 386 views

First things first: just in case that headline didn’t really sink in, this is an 18.4-inch laptop. In other words, those of you with even the slightest of back problems should probably just pass this one right on by. If you’re still with us, however, you’ll likely be totally engrossed by Laptop Mag‘s review of the Acer Aspire 8920G. The larger of the two second-gen Gemstones was said to feature a “gorgeous” Full HD display, impressive audio output, a respectable webcam and plenty of power under the hood. They also found the unique CineDash Media Console to be quite effective, save for accidentally activating the multimedia hub on occasion. Overall, critics deemed the lappie a “stellar” machine, but we’d certainly recommend browsing through the review just to make sure you’re really interested in picking up a slab this gigantic.

Airboard laptop stand puts your Reebok Pumps to shame

April 29th, 2008 accolades Posted in Laptops No Comments » 570 views

Go on, admit it — your day in the early 90s was never complete without reaching down in public and giving those Pumps a solid squeeze. In all honesty, we can’t say that Ki-Seung Lee’s Airboard is quite on that level, but it’s certainly got the potential to be. This laptop stand was designed to reside in your lap or on your hotel room table and give each individual user the ability to elevate it as he / she sees fit. Of course, the usefulness would really take a hit if this thing takes five minutes to get good and inflated, but we could certainly see this becoming ergonomist-approved should it ever hit retail.
