How to Upgrade to iPhone 3.0 beta on iPhone or iPod?

by Saad Hamid on March 24, 2009

A couple of days ago we shared links to download the iPhone 3.0 beta Firmware and as promised, we are back with an exclusive article on how to update your iPhone or iPod Touch device to iPhone 3.0 beta firmware.

Before I continue with the procedure, let me remind you folks that it is an advanced level hack so only proceed if you have a clever understanding of what you are doing. I strongly recommend users with unlocked iPhones to wait till the iPhone Dev team releases a patch for the new firmware.

Following procedure is applicable for those with a AT&T locked iPhone and all iPod Touch users.
Installing iPhone 3.0 beta on the iPhone

1. Make sure to have downloaded the iPhone 3.0 beta firmware that relates to your iPhone (2G or 3G).
2. Extract the firmware IPSW to a folder.
3. Connect the iPhone to your computer.
4. Get the UDID registered on the iPhone Developer program. (How to?)
5. Open iTunes and click Restore while holding the Shift key (for Windows) or Option key (for Mac).
6. Locate or browse to the firmware IPSW.
7. Wait for iTunes to unpackage and install the firmware.

June 11th, 2008 Abermaplalm Posted in İPod No Comments » 150 views

We first spotted iriver’s Volcano back at CES, and it looks like the stick-shaped DAP is finally shipping in Europe under the T7 model number. Specs are the same as we had in January: 2 or 4GB, OLED display, MP3 / WMA / ASF/ Ogg, FM, and voice recording in a variety of colors. €35 ($54) for the 2GB, €50 ($77) for the 4GB. Let’s hope we get word on an official US release with some more dollar-friendly pricing soon, eh?

Thanko’s solar-powered DAP urges you outdoors

June 1st, 2008 accolades Posted in İPod No Comments » 189 views

So we’ve seen a few solar-powered gizmos (that we wouldn’t touch with a ten twenty foot pole), but Thanko’s own sun-lovin’ DAP actually doesn’t look half bad. The Solar Digital Audio Player, from the front, looks like any other ho hum unit, with a 1.8-inch 220 x 176 resolution display, 4GB of internal storage space and a miniSD expansion slot. Flip ‘er over, and you’ll find a thoughtful kickstand that just so happens to have a solar panel slapped right on, enabling the brilliant, outdoor sunshine to give it a few more minutes of life. There’s no official word on a price or release date, but we wouldn’t bank on it ever coming Stateside, anyway.

Newman’s M8000 PMP: 250GB never looked so ugly

May 25th, 2008 admin Posted in İPod No Comments » 167 views

Newman has never had much luck cranking out portable media players that were easy on the eyes, and unfortunately, things aren’t getting any better with the M8000. The bulky PMP features a 4-inch 320 x 240 resolution display, support for NES emulation and text viewing, a 1.3-megapixel camera, integrated speaker / microphone, video output, USB 2.0 connectivity and compatibility with a smattering of file formats. Unlike many craptacular rivals, this one comes in black or white and can be equipped with up to 250GB of internal hard drive space. Of course, it’s not like anyone with a shred of dignity is going to fork out $388 for the quarter-terabyte edition, but if you’ve got the coin to roll, you can certainly test the limits of buyer’s remorse.

Cowon’s D2 PMP now available in 16GB form

May 10th, 2008 accolades Posted in İPod No Comments » 1,039 views

As lovely as the D2 is, we’ve always had a secret wish for it to offer up a bit more internal capacity. Apparently the higher-ups at Cowon have heard our inner cries, as a 16GB edition of the player is now available through JetMall. Aside from being more capacious, nothing else has changed, but if this was just the thing to push you over the edge, you can hand over your $240 right now and join the club.

iPod sleeve takes fashion to its logical, meaty conclusion

April 19th, 2008 accolades Posted in İPod No Comments » 183 views

What’s better than having a nice leather or cloth iPod sleeve to show off to your friends? If you’re thinking one made of imitation meat — you’re dead right! Apparently, a company in Japan is under the impression that you want to wrap your music player in a grade A lookalike, undoubtedly to the thrill of your vegetarian friends and family. Of course, don’t just get one for the shock value — this thing oozes pure, sophisticated style. If you’ve got ¥6,800 (or about $66) and dignity to spare, it can be all yours.

O2 slashing £100 from 8GB iPhone in UK

April 15th, 2008 accolades Posted in İPod No Comments » 209 views

The whispers are true, or so it seems. According to Stuff,  is getting set to one-up T-Mobile’s price cutting affair in Germany by hacking a full £100 from the 8GB iPhone in the UK (bringing it down to £169). Better still, the discount will apply regardless of which contract selection you make, whereas T-Mobile forced users to sign the dotted line on a pricey Complete XL plan. Unfortunately, the lower sticker only applies to the 8GB version — the 16GB model will remain £329 — but anyone who sprung for one of the former iterations within the last month will receive an “Ultimate Price Promise” £100 refund voucher. Before you dash out to cash in, it should be noted that the deal is set to expire come June — and we certainly don’t have to remind you what that could mean.

Copulare’s $2,350 iCoral iPod dock is just as absurd as you think

April 7th, 2008 accolades Posted in İPod No Comments » 157 views

To be honest, JVC’s P-Series LCD line may still hold the crown for most expensive iPod dock, but at least it comes with an expansive 1080p panel, right? Pushing aside a number of a worthy opponents on its charge to most absurd / unnecessary iPod dock evar, the iCoral supposedly features a top plate constructed from coral and is proudly decorated with a “very artistic design” (Copulare’s words, not ours). ‘Round back, you’ll find USB, S-Video and stereo analog outputs, but we’re simply not seeing the slit in which your currency of choice comes out of at the press of a button. Due to that unfortunate omission, we’re suggesting you hold tight to your €1,500 ($2,355) — unless you’re one David Beckham, of course.

Adobe Flash for iPhone and iPod Touch Coming soon

March 20th, 2008 accolades Posted in İPod No Comments » 204 views

flashiphone.jpgThe good news for iPhone and iPod Touch owners is that Adobe has started development of a Flash player suitable for use on iPhone and iPod Touch. It was recently announced by Shantanu Narayen, CEO of Adobe Systems and Technologies.

It is good to know that after almost an year of release of the iPhone, someone has finally given consideration to this. Narayen explained that the release of the new iPhone SDK has made it possible to provide necessary tools that are required to create a touch-handset version of the popular Flash media player.

Back in the first week of this month, Steve Jobs announced at the Apple Shareholder meeting that Flash for the iPhone will not be seeing the world soon. That announcement and the one made by Narayen today suggest that Flash for iPhone is a controversial subject for both the companies.

It is expected that Flash for the iPhone will make through into the next firmware release of iPhone i.e. iPhone 2.0. However Apple requires that all third-party software be released as standalone applications rather than as plug-ins which, in the case of Adobe Flash, is kind of a big no-no.
